A home grown New Jersey native, Christopher Fung is a director, designer and cg artist. He is currently serving as a creative director for Gravity NY and directing independently out of his sunny Brooklyn home. Drawing from experience in graphic design, computer science, live action, stylized cg animation and photoreal visual effects, Fung can approach a script from any number angles. However, the goal is much more modest: to create simple, clever and imaginative work and make people feel warm and fuzzy in the process.
Fung began creating visual effects shots for HBO's Sex and the City and The Wire at the age of 19 and hasn't slowed down since. In 2004, he joined as the first employee of Shilo, where he founded, developed, and directed the cg department of this Emmy Award winning studio for 6 years. Being part of a boutique studio meant wearing many hats and Chris has accumulated a closet full of them, from Lead 3d to Editor to Art Director, Compositor, Cinematographer, Designer, Visual Effects Supervisor, Writer, Technical Director, Photographer, Matte Painter, sometimes Hand Model, unexpectedly IT Department, but hopefully not Rotoscoper. In his time at Shilo, Fung created many memorable campaigns for AT&T, Under Armour, LG, Lucozade, Samsung, MetLife, Toyota and Scion, in addition to several music video and short film pieces.
In 2010, he signed as a director with Rhino, a boutique vfx and commercial production studio, which later reinvented itself as the New York arm of parent company, Gravity. Bringing with him a background in concept-to-completion commercial production, Fung was instrumental in adding brand, design and concepting experience to Gravity's already extensive resume as a movie-caliber visual effects and post production house.
The best ideas tend to be the simplest ones; a belief that inspires much of Christopher's work.
